U3A in London Update – 25 November 2024

This information was published on: November 25, 2024

A mouth-watering dish made for Amrita Narain’s INDIAAH cookery class

This is a real complaint from Amalia and your Update team.

You are taking us too much for granted!

  1. Please, if you want to put anything in the Update  you must send it directly to Maureen by Tuesday evening. You are NOT doing so.  You tell Gilli, or the Office or even me, Amalia!  I stupidly, pass them on to Maureen – I shouldn’t, but old habits die hard. I am trying to be involved much less in my old age.
  2. Coordinators, read Gilli’s timetable that she sends out every Tuesday and tell her of any errors.  Don’t tell me or the Office.

     Thank you!

The Monday Talk The Charles Bonnet Syndrome

In his talk ‘How Cancer Treatment Advances: Science and Ideology’ Robert Marcus, retired haematologist, will show that many of the advances in cancer therapy we see today have arisen at least in part from geopolitical circumstances, ideology and economics, with the implication that we need to continue to integrate science and the humanities in our academic institutions and Universities.

The timetables for the week

This update, The full timetable, the Town Hall room timetable and the Zoom timetable are available in the Common Room and on the corridor noticeboard.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE

If you will need a wheelchair or evacuation chair to exit the building in an emergency, please contact the U3A Office IMMEDIATELY. Thank you.

From U3A London Maintenance, U3A London Health and Safety and WAC Arts

The urgent maintenance work on the building’s heating system that commenced on November 4th is ongoing.
We received an undertaking that as many heaters as necessary will be provided. Coordinators, please ask for one at reception.

During this period, the main entrance will still be closed for safety reasons. Access will be redirected to the side entrance which leads to the Atrium, Art Block and all internal routes. We ask all building partners, clients, staff, and visitors to follow the
posted signage and use the temporary route. If you have specific requirements such as VIP visits, or need further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

It is also important to re-familiarise yourself with the emergency evacuation routes. The areas affected by this maintenance only include the side parking, imperial staircase, and main entrance; alternative emergency routes will be available during
this period.

Please note that the side parking area will be designated for loading and unloading related to contractor work. You may, however, continue to use our rear parking area and the designated front disabled parking spaces.

Korgaonkar WAC arts offer an affordable and accessible Arts Programme for children and young people. They would like me to develop a new multi-generational creative project and would like as many U3A members as possible to complete a questionnaire to help develop a project that best meets the needs and wishes of the community. Questionnaires can be obtained from WAC arts reception and, once completed, should be returned there.

With Countrywide Bank, you are not just a number. .. You are three numbers, a dash, a dot, two more numbers and a letter of the alphabet.

Good wishes from Richard, Maureen, Gilli and Amalia
